Zutara Week 2010 Day Two - Change

What if the Water Tribe were the ones who attacked?
What if Katara was sent to hunt down Aang?

Okay. After you spend three hours failing at bakcgrounds and watertribe colour schemes you tend to get lazy and fuck the whole idea of including Zuko altogether.
I was gonna have big innocent peasant face Zuko lookin' all worried. But honestly, my quality of art is seriously slipping.
I did and redid that background like eight times, and I still hate it.

Yes I realise this would probably fit better with 'Altenate Universe' but I already have an idea for that one so eh.

An idea me and Nicole came up with today in Science.
We basically figured out this entire universe where it was the Water Tribe that started the war, so basically the Water Tribe got turned into the Fire Nation, so there was no discrimination against women, and waterbenders were like.. way revered.
So we decided that because Katara is the waterbender, despite being a girl and the second born, would be next in line for Chief of the Southern Tribe.
And that the Northern Tribe were dominant and Pakku was the Chief and he sent Katara and Sokka on the Avatar quest as repentance for the insult of Kanna turning him down etc etc.
IDK. But we totally had it all worked out.. sort of.

Question, do you think Azula would be evil or not? Cos we figured it was a nature over nurture thing, if Azula was born into a peasant family, had to work, wasn't constantly told she was brilliant and had her mother to love her, would she still be fucked?
I thought not, still ambitious, but not evil. We were discussing it in class today and I wanted to know what you thought?

So there. an 'evil' Katara on her hunt to find the Avatar, arriving in Zuko and Azula's village to claim Aang.
Yuh. Fucked. I know.

..maybe I just wanted to draw Katara in warrior makeup and clothes.
Dude. I love the concept so much. I think I'll do more of it.

..just pretend there are some water tribe henchmen behind her looking threatening.. hmmkay?

I might add Zuko.. if I finish my english essay.. and I feel up to it.

I don't know if it's too late to comment, but I liked how Katara seems so powerful and confident.

My only question is why is Katara holding the spear if she's a waterbender? I mean is it really necessary for anything other than show?

We decided it would be for ceremonial purposes, so yes, essentially for looks. We also thought it'd be cool if water benders had tools like airbenders to manipulate their elements, and played with the idea that the spear could be useful in this way. It's a wide blade, but we talked about it potentially being wider, almost like a (sharp) paddle. We never came to a conclusion regarding it, I must admit, but the spear stuck because it looked cool and threatening, but we did question its purpose.

I would love to read a fanfiction about this... I would write one myself, but I'm already writing two other fanfictions, and they're keeping me pretty busy.
Maybe when I'm done with them all... maybe.

That would be cool! Let me know if you do!

Love this picture and love your theory. Has anyone wrote a fanfic on it?

Not that I know of, sadly.

I love your pic!!! The only thing that i don't agree with is the necklace, i thing that if Katara was sent to hunt the Avatar, because her gran mother turned Pakku down, then she wont wear the necklace, cause it represents her misfortune.
I agree with ~ForeverTiki about Azula and Sokka
